COVID 19: Schools out for…. the foreseeable future!

The class is 2020 is looking very strange. Students all over have been working hard learning their subjects and along comes this highly unusual virus, that will change the face of exams in 2020. In case you didn’t get the memo… schools out for the foreseeable future!

With the government declaring a national social distancing and self isolation action plan, what does that mean for young scholars across the UK? Well it’s a long and complicated process that education governors have been working hard to find a sensible solution.

UCAS has a great update on what governors are planning. Here are the key points we think you need to know:

Students in England :

To make sure it’s a fair reflection of your performance your grade will be based on information from your teachers’ judgement, using:

  • previous attainment, including GCSEs and mocks
  • non-exam assessment (course work)
  • the grade your teachers believe you would have been awarded should exams have gone ahead
  • there will be an option to sit an exam later if you do not feel your grades reflect your performance.

Students in Scotland:

To make sure it’s a fair reflection of your performance the government has said your grade will be based on information from your teachers’ judgement, using:

  • any units and coursework that are completed, and estimated grades provided by teachers, drawing on the available evidence gathered throughout the year
    prior attainment information, where available
  • They are aiming to have results with students no later than 4 August.

Students in Wales:

To make sure it’s a fair reflection of your performance your grade will be based on information from your teachers’ judgement, using:

  • previous attainment, including GCSEs and mocks
  • non-exam assessment (course work)
  • the grade your teachers believe you would have been awarded should exams have gone ahead

Everywhere else:

Not all areas have yet decided on an action plan, so if you are outside of the areas above, make it a priority to follow your education governing body to get the best information.
